Bosongo Location residents have been asked to embrace alternative ways of generating income and move from the alcohol business that has cost the society in terms of education and development.
Chief Ayienda Mokaya says they have seriously embarked on destroying alcohol by storming homes suspected to be brewing centres of the illicit liquor.
“We have started this year with a serious operation in Bosongo Location and five Sub-locations. Illicit brewing has created a negative impact since many of the youth and children are dropping out of schools, to venture in the business,” Mokaya said.
He added, “I urge residents to embrace alternative means of generating income to brewing alcohol which is now a menace in my area of jurisdiction.”
The chief advised the youth and women to take advantage of the Uwezo Fund, a government initiative that gives loans to groups so that they can start projects and business.
“Beneficiaries can start projects like keeping poultry, goats and bees among others. These can help you generate money and be independent,” Mokaya advised.
He also said they will arrest those who cause disturbance after taking alcohol, warning those who have deviated from their responsibilities.
“With help of AP officers and the community policing, we will arrest those who cause disturbance after taking alcohol. I also warn those who prioritise on alcohol and neglect their families that they will see fire,” the chief warned.
