Editorial manager at Consumer News and Business Chanel Joseph Bonyo, has urged university students to embrace Digital migration.
Speaking on Monday during an informal career talk at Maseno University, Bonyo stated that it is important to have digital migration, saying it is very beneficial to young entrepreneurs.
“With digital migration, you can even start your own TV station in your room, it is easier to operate in digital frequencies,” said Bonyo.
The talk was meant to empower the students as well as aspiring entrepreneurs in the university.
He further advised students to practice writing, as it is the backbone of any media house and practitioners.
“Use the Internet positively, blog and run YouTube channels and other social sites to strengthen your writing,” added Bonyo.
However, students raised concern over newsgathering, saying they lack press cards, which according to Media Council of Kenya (MCK), are only given to students in their final year of study and those going for internship.
'It's hard for us to introduce ourselves as journalists when sourcing for news because we lack press cards', said Brian Imbaro, a third year media student.
The students have been urged to be job creators rather than job seekers and not to wait for graduation in order to start working.
