University graduates in Lari sub county have been challenged to take up farming as a venture instead of tarmacking for white collar jobs.

Patricia Nyakundi, a youth officer in Lari, observed that many graduates were spending their lives tarmacking for white collar jobs.

She noted that graduates can earn money if they consider taking up farming.

“Farming remains a lucrative venture which university graduates can explore instead of wasting many years tarmacking for white collar jobs that are hard to come by,” she said during a seminar with youths at Lari grounds on Saturday.

The officer urged graduates to utilise the government's Uwezo Fund and venture into farming.

She stated that modern farming is profitable and can help alleviate poverty and unemployment.

Ms Nyakundi also appealed to youths to embrace entrepreneurship as the other way of fighting unemployment.

“We cannot all get office jobs, we must diverse our mind and stop thinking of white collar jobs,” she said.

The official also urged youths to grab the 30 per cent government tenders reserved for them.

She said through tendering, young people will be able to create business networks and empower themselves economically.
