Nakuru Governor Kinuthia Mbugua has called on deputy Governors in the country to shun politics and discrimination and instead embrace good leadership that will ensure the country realises her devolution promises to the public.

The county boss was speaking  Thursday during the official opening of the Second Deputy Governors’ Leadership Conference in Naivasha where he also highlighted some of the challenges affecting devolution among them political interference and delay in transfer of funds to counties by the national government.

"As we deliberate over leadership issues in our counties, we all need to be very open minded and pragmatic in our approach to tackling those issues that are hindering development and service delivery. It is only with good leadership that we will deliver the devolution promise to the citizens of Kenya," Mbugua stated in his official Facebook account.

The governor also warned deputies to be careful not to hinder development of devolution through poor leadership which will do no good to Kenyan citizens.

‘If leadership is not well managed in the counties, it can lead to a major setback on the gains of devolution and a recipe for chaos, especially as we head towards the next elections. We have to deliver as a team. We must not allow divisions but speak with one voice," read part of Mbugua’s message.

The event was also attended by Deputy President William Ruto who officially opened the conference in its second day.
