President Uhuru Kenyatta called upon Jubilee affiliate parties to accept a merger to increase their bargaining power ahead of the 2017 elections.
The president was speaking on Saturday during a tour to Narok County where he called upon the affiliate parties to form a merger.
He said the merger will allow for a better bargaining power with greater manifestos.
“Instead of having many affiliate parties, we should have one party with a national outlook and manifestos which will market the party.” He said.
He added that many affiliate parties have no advantage to the coalition but further tribalism.
“The merger will allow us to sell us our manifestos and not tribalism,” said Uhuru.
He further denied claims that the merger will curtain democracy.
“We need that democracy inside our party. I too will be asking for votes from members as the flag bearer. That is what we want,” he said.
