Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri has urged Bahati farmers to embrace the use of modern agricultural technologies to increase food production.

Ngunjiri said that by using modern farming practices, farmers stand a better chance to reap maximum profits.

“Since the population is exploding there is need for farmers to modernize their farming trends to increase their yield to sustain the population,” said Ngunjiri .

Speaking on Saturday at Kiamaina Primary School, Bahati Ward during a farmers' day, Ngunjiri said that improved agricultural technologies would over come the challenges the farmers are going through.

“The value of modern technologies is to increase production and have food security,” said Ngunjiri.

The event was hosted by the Sustainable community development organization sought to help farmers to adopt modern farming technologies to enhance food security.

Ngunjiri said that due to decline of land under farming by encroachment by real estate developers there is need to update farming.

“Land under agriculture is under threat of being converted into residential land and there is need to use the available land to produce high yield and at low costs,” said Ngunjiri.

The legislator also urged farmers to grow crops that are resistance to certain diseases or pests, and crops with improved nutritional profiles.

He said with attention being focused on devolved units, leaders should develop sustainable agricultural approaches to assist farmers.

Ngunjiri has also unveiled a five -year scorecard that will enable Bahati residents gauge his development track.

Over 1000 farmers attended the one- field day.
