Ruto made the remarks on Monday at his Karen office, Nairobi when he met with leaders and professionals from Meru County.

Addressing the leaders, Ruto stated that if farmers will embrace new farming methods, more yields will be produced, thus making profits from the agricultural sector to boost the country's economy.

"Diversification and value addition are new methods of reaping good returns from a growing, vibrant economy. Farmers should embrace new farming methods such as mechanized agriculture and agro-processing to encourage more people to take up farming as a profitable venture," he said.

He urged leaders to ensure that farmers across all counties are exposed to modern farming.

"Leaders need to encourage their communities to diversify their economic activities to mitigate the effects of changing trends in the world," said Ruto.
