Eldoret West Deputy County Commissioner Christopher Wanaju has urged residents to embrace the Nyumba Kumi security initiative.

Mr Wanjau said the initiative will boost security if residents embraced it.

The sub-county security and intelligence committee chair said some locals were reluctant to accept and implement the security initiative that was introduced by the government to fight criminality.

“We are urging residents to embrace Nyumba Kumi and help us curb criminal activities,” said Wanjau when he addressed the public at Uasin Gishu Primary School on Wednesday.

He asked chiefs and elders to sensitise locals in their areas of jurisdiction on Nyumba Kumi and other security initiatives that the government is formulating and implementing.

He called on chiefs to organise public meetings so that locals can understand security measures being put by government to fight crime.

Mr Wanjau reported that crime rates had significantly reduced following consistent police patrols mounted in the sub-county.

He said security officers in the area will continue intensifying surveillance.

Mr Wanjau said police will not relent in dealing with criminals and law breakers in the sub-county.

The Deputy County Commissioner appealed to the public to work with the police in their efforts to restore law and order in the area.
