Former Naivasha MP Jane Kihara has asked Kenyans especially those living in Nakuru County to embrace and appreciate different cultures in a move to foster unity and end tribalism.
Speaking exclusively on Monday in Naivasha, the former MP said lack of a clear understanding of different cultures has led to friction between communities.
She said Kenyans lack the zeal to learn how different cultures work and they feel too more comfortable in their respective cultures and look down on others who have different sets of values as prescribed by their tradition.
“Unity is something that we should work hard to foster and make sure that it remains that way and as a Kenyan who witnessed 2007-08 post election violence, I am urging all in Nakuru to embrace and appreciate different cultures so that we live in harmony and respect one another,” she said.
She also called on those living in areas out of their home county to help grow them as those are currently their homes and not where they were born.
“There is this issue of voting where you find that a person living in a place like Kisumu has to come here in Nakuru because he was born here to vote. That is not what we should do because you live in Kisumu so vote there and help build the area by electing a leader of your choice from the area,” stated Kihara.
