Egerton University students and academic staff members have been urged to embrace the use of virtual library resources available at the university’s library in order to enhance their research and academic goals.
Speaking to groups of students and academic staff on Tuesday during a Virtual Library Resource Training Workshop, Librarian Janerose Kinyanjui observed that the university community was not adequately making use of electronic resources available at the university library, despite the huge amounts of money used by the university management to subscribe the resources.
She hinted that the library department had embarked on a thorough electronic resources literacy programme to enhance the use of electronic resources by the university community.
“Audit reports from our suppliers indicate that we do not utilize these resources adequately. It is discouraging because the university management spends a lot of money to enable the library acquire this resources,” she said.
“We at the library department are dedicated at helping the university acquire its academic and research goals and we will embark on a thorough user education on the use of electronic resources,” added Kinyanjui.
She noted that virtual libraries are the future of information dissemination in libraries as they cross the boarders in availing diverse current sources of information and knowledge and it was important for university students and teachers to embrace their use.
