Area chief Joel Mwangi has confirmed the incident saying that residents have been living in fear of attacks by the buffaloes which have been roaming around unperturbed.

"We are very worried because these animals are wandering around with Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) doing nothing about it. Residents have now even turned to keeping their children indoors,” said Mwangi.

Mwangi has said that residents in the area may lack food as the buffaloes have been destroying their crops in the farms.

"We are at a risk of being struck by hunger if the situation continues. We have called on KWS to control these animals but they are yet to heed to our calls,” said the chief.

Residents who held a baraza at the chief's office last weekend have now vowed to deal with the animals that enter their farms claiming that KWS cannot be relied on anymore to protect them and their farms.

They say that the losses that the animals have caused them are enough and they won’t tolerate them anymore.
