According to the Council of People with Disabilities, most counties have ignored disabled people.

The council official Mohamed Gabo said there are many skilled disabled people who should be hired to at the counties.

“We have skilled disabled people with the potential to deliver. Counties should consider hiring disabled people to work in counties,” said Gabo.

He accused governors for sidelining disabled people who have equal rights as other human beings.

He cited that in Kisii County alone, the number of disabled people working there will not be even 2.

“Like now in Kisii County, disabled people have not been given opportunity to work despite the fact that we have several people who are qualified to work. I am challenging governors to employ disabled persons for equality purposes,” he added.

He urged disabled persons not to hide in their houses in fear of victimization.

"I also challenge disabled people to come out and defend their rights which are constitutional. Hiding in houses will increase their suffering and no one will realize if they exist," he said.

He said the council will push counties to employ more people in the next five years.
