According to Nyamira County Senator Kennedy Mongare, currently many schools in the country are lacking enough teachers, in that one teacher is forced to serve many classes.

He said according to Teachers Service Commission, the country has a shortage of 100,000 teachers in public primary and secondary schools, and there was need to ensure the gap is reduced.

“We have a big shortage of teachers, TSC knows this, the government knows but here comes Matiang'i with his theories sayn we don't have a shortage yet we have qualified teachers and all we want is the government to employ more to improve the education levels," he added.

He lamented that the teachers’ shortage is so serious that parents in most public schools end up employing their own tutors to fill the gap.

Last week, Matiang’i claimed that there was no teachers’ shortage in learning institutions, arguing that any perceived inadequacy was a result of some schools being overstaffed.
