The director of Tana Water Services board Mr Mureithi Kang'ara has called upon schools to employ qualified drivers. This comes after St Mary’s Nyamagwa Girls High School’s bus overturned killing at least three students. The incident occurred when the students were celebrating the launching of the new bus. "Schools do not vet drivers before they employ them and that is why students are dying in accidents," he told the Nation Media Group. He added that the driver should be taken to court and then charged for causing the deaths of brilliant Kenyan because of careless driving. "The driver committed a very serious traffic offence and he should not be spared," he said. The director mentioned that schools have to recruit only qualified drivers from recognised driving schools. He also sends a message of condolence to the families of the deceased girls. Mureithi has joined other leaders in expressing their concern over the increased number of accidents in the county. Mr Kang'ara said the school’s board of management that allowed the driver to operate the vehicle, yet his driving licence did not authorise him to drive a bus, should be investigated. According to Mr Mureithi, the school management has to be compelled to meet all the burial expenses of those students who lost their lives.
