Kenya's premier training college for hospitality Utalii College is on its knees and facing closure.
This is according to the latest audit report.
According to the report by Auditor General Edward Ouko, operations at the college will grind to a halt unless the government quickly intervenes by pumping in more funds.
The 2015/16 Financial Year report tabled in the National Assembly revealed that the college recorded an accumulated fund deficit of Sh658.73 million over the past two years while their current liabilities stand at Sh3.05 billion.
"The current liabilities balance of Sh3.5 billion exceeded the current assets figure of Sh442.28 million, thus resulting in a negative working capital balance of Sh2.60 billion as at June 30, 2016," reads part of the report.
"The college is therefore technically insolvent and its continued existence as a going concern is dependent on financial support from the government and its creditors," the report adds.
Since inception in 1975, Utalii has had the reputation of churning out more then 50,000 highly qualified graduates to work in the aviation, hotel and tourism industry in East Africa and the rest of the world.
Last year, the institution was ranked the world's fourth best tourism institution according to the Young Chef Olympiad, in an event held in Kolkata, India, January this year.
