He is among the veteran politicians in the country But Dr. Oburu Oginga's political journey seems to be coming to an end if the outcome of the past two general elections is anything to go by.
For a man who joined Parliament in 1994 to inherit his father's Bondo MP seat, Dr. Oginga has had a successful political career in the country's tough political scene.
After successfully defending his seat in the three subsequent general elections, the veteran politician's bid to go for a bigger seat flopped in 2013 when his ODM party disqualified him alongside William Oduol from the race for the party ticket to vie for Siaya governor following the chaos that rocked the exercise.
Cornel Rasanga who came third during the nominations was given the party ticket and went on to win the seat.
However, ODM swiftly came to his rescue when he was nominated to the National Assembly,a move that gave him a political lifeline ahead of the 2017 contest.
Dr. Oginga's re-entry to retake the Bondo MP seat ahead of the August 8 poll sent shock waves across the constituency. However, his dream never saw the light of the day as he was thrashed during the ODM nominations as he came distant second in a race that was won by incumbent MP Dr. Gideon Ochanda.
Left with no better option, the 74-year old politician shelved his political ambitions and focused on campaigning for his younger brother Raila Odinga.
At 74 years, Dr. Odinga's political career is as well as sealed considering that he will be 79 years in 2022.
