Police in Thika have arrested a notorious rapist said to be behind a series of rape cases and violent muggings in the town.
According to police, the suspect was nabbed at his house in Kiandutu slums on Wednesday night following a tip off from members of the public.
Confirming the arrest, Thika Sub County Administration Police Commandant Peter Nzimbi said that the middle aged man has been wreaking havoc by allegedly raping women and violently stealing from them at night.
He said that the suspect, Kimani Koinange alias Kim was in possession of crude weapons during his arrest.
“We recovered a toy pistol, an Administration Police uniform, a knife and a panga from the suspect’s house and will use them as exhibits once we arraign him in court,” he said as quoted by Thika-town-today.
Nzimbi said that the suspect is linked to a notorious gang that has been causing local’s sleepless nights.
He stated that police are interrogating the suspect to help to get more information that will lead to arrest of his accomplices.
Mr. Nzimbi said that police will not tolerate criminal goons especially this time the country is heading to the general election.
“We are going to increase surveillance and smoke out criminals from their hideouts especially in Kiandutu, Majengo and Kigango,” he said.
Mr. Nzambi urged locals to embrace Nyumba Kumi and volunteer information that will lead to arrest of criminals.
