Speaking during an interview on Citizen TV on Thursday, Maalim said that Kalonzo is the best bet to defeat President Uhuru Kenyatta in the August general election.

The former National Assembly deputy Speaker added that Kalonzo has the political and diplomatic experience to be the country’s next president.

“As Wiper we will continue to push for Kalonzo to be endorsed as NASA presidential flag bearer, to battle with President Uhuru Kenyatta in the August election,” he said.

Maalim added that Kalonzo’s presidency will tackle corruption, tribalism, nepotism and marginalization of some communities issues he claimed Jubilee government has failed to handle.

At the same time Maalim refuted claims of Kalonzo planning to bolt out of NASA, noting that he is in NASA to stay.

“Kalonzo is dedicated and committed to NASA and claims of him bolting are out of order,” he added.

Maalim added, “The quest and appeal for Kalonzo to be NASA flag bearer should not be wrongly interpreted to mean that he wants to quit NASA.”

There have been claims that Kalonzo might ditch NASA to form a third political force that will challenge Jubilee and NASA in the August polls.

The Wiper leader has however refuted the claims terming them malicious and propaganda and meant to cause tension in NASA.
