There was an evident show of support for President Uhuru Kenyatta as heads of state from the region came in numbers to witness the great occasion following the much disputed 2017 election.
Deputy President Uhuru preceded them. Soon it was a flurry of introduction of the many heads of state. The enthusiastic crowds gave them heavy welcome. Chants of 'Igwee ' rent the air as they sat at the podium.
General Salva Kiir of Sudan received a warm welcome. Nairobi Governor Sonko was there to receive them. He was assisted by Amina Mohammed of foreign affairs.
Soon, Edgar Lungu represented the people of Zambia. He was was smartly dressed in a light-blue suit.
It was then the turn of the people of Djibouti to take the limelight. President Ismael Here Omar represented his people.
The Namibians and the people could not be left behind.
Neighbors Ethiopia saw it fit to send President Haille Mariam, their premier to lead the Ethiopian delegation.
The man who stole the show was Paul Kagame of Rwanda. His tall and lithe figure conspicuous from the obviously disadvantaged security detail attached to him.
President Museveni delayed his arrival for obvious reasons. Kenyans love this man from Uganda. He however has no issues with our cows crossing over to Uganda. Our chicken too can cross to Tororo.
Conspicuously absent from this crowd is Raila's friend, John Pombe Magufuli. Perhaps he was afraid that Kenyans will ask him to bring back their cows! He has sent his Deputy though.
Maroon commandos are there to fill the desires of the expectant crowd who are chanting ' si uchawi!'
President-elect Uhuru's convoy snakes in. A Police helicopter hovers overhead to provide support to the boots on the ground.
At 11.53 am, the big moment arrives. The crowd cannot be contained. Maroon commandoes sing 'Kenya nchi yangu' to usher in the man of the moment.
Flags fly high. He waves at the crowd. They respond enthusiastically.
