Energy CS Charles Keter on Tuesday commissioned the Dadaab power station, saying his ministry will extend electricity connections to the nearby trading centers as soon as it receives donor funding from the World Bank.
Keter said the project will spread power connections to rural areas, thus improving education standards and small-scale businesses.
"Very soon we shall receive a massive $100 million (Sh1 billion) from the World Bank to extend power to other off-grid areas. This will in turn cover most of the areas,” said Keter.
The CS issued that so far 597 learning institutions in Garissa County have been connected through the recently launched national power grid and solar panels.
The CS further said the second phase that is to be funded by the national government and the African Development Fund at a cost of Sh15 billion will see Fafi and Wajir South constituencies get connected.
