According to immigration laws contained in Kenya citizenship and immigration act, class D work permits are supposed to be granted to foreign nationals only in the instance that Kenyans lack the required skills and qualifications.

When directorate of immigration and registration of persons that fall under the ministry of devolution tried to enforce these laws, many NGOs opposed the move.

The government should stand firm on these laws so that many locals can benefit from tenders awarded to foreign companies.

According to a report published by the Daily Nation on June 21, 2016, many foreigners are working in Kenya without work permits.

Apart from taking up jobs meant for locals, they are also paid 4 times the amount their Kenyan collegues are paid for the same job and qualifications.

This is so unfair, coming at a time the country is chocking with youth unemployment.
