Engashura residents have urged the government to re-instate community policing that was disbanded one month ago.
Community policing chairman John Mwaura says that insecurity in Kiamaina sub-location area is worsening since the committee was disbanded. Mwaura was speaking on Monday at Kiamaina Trading Centre where he said the role played by community policing is crucial in maintaining law and order.
“Cases of insecurity are on the rise. We need the government to re-instate community policing to help address the problem which is growing each day,” said Mwaura.
Last month, security agents disbanded Kiamaina community policing after a decision was reached during a security meeting.
At the same time, Mwaura urged youths to desist from criminal activities and abide by the rule of law.
“Youth should not engage themselves in criminal activities because such activities worsen security. Instead, they should get into constructive activities,” said Mwaura.
He called on leaders from Nakuru County to look for ways of alleviating joblessness among the youth.
“Our leaders should create opportunities for our youth to alleviate insecurity. With more employment opportunities available, the rate of insecurity is likely to come down,” said Mwaura.
He said lack of employment among the youth was the major cause of insecurity in Kiamaina. He urged the county government to look for a permanent solution.
