Youth in Mombasa have been asked to enjoy the festive season responsibly.Mombasa youth leader Mohammed Hussein said a majority of youth engage in irresponsible sexual behaviour and drug abuse during the holidays despite being primary and high school students.Speaking at Majengo in Mombasa on Thursday during a youth forum, Hussein said youth should enjoy the festive season responsibly and avoid being lured into extreme celebrations and forgetting to protect themselves. He urged youth to guide each other and always seek assistance from his office, so as to benefit from the youth forums carried in Mvita constituency under the leadership of area MP Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir. He said it would be a shame if youth engaged in activities that they would later regret once the festive season is over.“I am your colleague and I have gone through what you are going through as youths such always wanting to explore new things with our bodies. However, I urge you to desist from irresponsible behaviour,” said Hussein. He cautioned youth against joining groups that may put their lives at risk and urged those who are still in school to focus on their education and work towards developing their careers.“We have very many opportunities if we think outside the box. We can better our lives by taking advantage of the Youth Enterprise Development Fund, the Uwezo Fund and the Skills Mtaani programme which is being sponsored by our MP Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir. It is up to you to take up the challenge,” he said.He appealed to youth in Majengo, Tudor, Buxton, Old Town and Ganjoni to refrain from criminal activities and instead focus on developing themselves economically. He promised the youth that he will in partnership with the area MP plan direct youth involvement programmes geared towards developing the youth economically and providing guidance to them.Is there a newsworthy accident, incident or event happening in Mombasa County that you want Hivisasa to cover?
