Kenya National Union of Teachers-KNUT Mombasa branch has asked the Ministry of Education to ensure that all needed text books are available in all the public schools countrywide.
Mombasa County KNUT Secretary Dan Aloo said that all students should get the text books as promised by the government and not for other students to be forced to share the books.
Aloo said that in the recent past Head teachers were forced to look for money elsewhere so that they run their schools following a delay in disbursement of government funds in school, adding that a replica of such situation with the free text books should not be witnessed.
Aloo said that some government initiatives though are the best, turn out to be political gimmicks and gives Head teachers hard times in managing schools.
Aloo said that for education sector to strive the national government must keep its promises.
“We should not be duped to government projects only to turn out that they were political gimmicks, the text books should be within school premises and all the public schools benefit without delay” added Aloo.
The education stakeholder in Mombasa County has fully supported the noble idea as well as creating day school segments in various National schools in the country.
“If such plans are long term then no doubt the education sector in the country is headed to the right direction” noted Aloo.
He further asked the government through the Ministry of education to always ensure that all education stakeholders are fully involved before implementing any changes in the education sector.
