Speaking in Nyamira town as he was shopping for his daughter who is going back to school after the strike was called off, Richard Rioba said so far, price tags in supermarkets remained the same, despite the government having announced reduction of fuel prices.

“I thought prices had been reduced on basic items after the government announced fuel price reduction. The government should swiftly act against exploitative business people,” he said.

Another parent, Josephine Mogotu, who was escorting her son to school from Kisii town to Nyamira, wondered why the price was high as usual yet petrol and diesel prices had been reduced.

“The matatu operators are selfish. Why are they charging Sh 100 from Kisii to Nyamira yet fuel price has gone down?” she questioned.

The government on Wednesday, announced fuel price reduction whereby petrol was reduced by Sh 9.13, diesel by Sh 7.50 and paraffin’s price was reduced by Sh 6 per litre.
