The MP said farmers go through a lot of challenges during planting and harvesting, therefore, need to be paid on time.

"I want to urge the Treasury to streamline their payments system for farmers to benefit from their sweat, how can a farmer deliver his or her maize to NCPB and stay for over one month without pay. The system should be changed," he said after touring Moisbridge NCPB depot, Sunday.

"How will farmers prepare for the next planting season without the funds. I want to urge the Treasury to clear the farmer's debt with immediate effect if they really care about farmers issues," he added.

Kositany further revealed that he will soon sponsor an agricultural bill in Parliament that will ensure that farmers live comfortable lives.

He, however, urged the Cabinet Secretary for Agriculture Mwangi Kiunjuri to audit all NCPB equipment since most of them are old and outdated.

"The Ministry should purchase modern silos and drying machines that are cost effective that will help farmers dry their produce at no extra cost," noted Kositany.
