The Cabinet Secretary for Environment and Natural Recourses Judith Wakhungu through the Kenya Forest Service has launch 3rd Strategic Plan 2017-2022.
The strategic plan is in the bid to full fill the vision 2030 in the conservation of 10 percent forest cover which is a constitutional requirement.
Speaking at Kenya forest service (KFS) Head office in Kiambu County, the CS recommend the work of Kenya Forest Service for sustaining and improving conservation of forest cover from 6.9% from 2010 to 7.4% 2017.
"The role of ensuring we improving the environment cover is of each of us. The KFS should be at the forefront so that we can achieve this," said the CS.
The CS has said her ministry is looking forward to working with the board where the government will prioritize intervention to improve designs and also implementing the enacted Forest Conservation Management 2016 law that deals with the challenges that affect forest.
Wakhungu said the critical role to sustain the 5 water towers is not an easy where she urged all stakeholder and private partnership and Community living near the forest to support the planting of trees.
She, however, said the ministry will develop National Forest Program that will guard the sector for 15 Years.
KFS Director Emilio Mugo has assured that the Organization mandate has the responsibility and power to guard the sector in implementing the Strategic Plan to breach the gap from 7.4 percent to 9 percent in 2022.
Mugo said that they will work closely with counties in looking lands that touched in Arid and semi-arid areas where they will introduce new species which can do well.
