Environmentalists and forest conservationists have lauded the bold move by Kenya Forest service board to send on leave Chief Conservator of Forests Emilio Mugo alongside other officers.
Richard Keter, Chairman of Green life Nature and Ecosystem Network (GNEN), a lobby group for forest conservation in several counties said that the service had been ran down by cartels in the management abetting the wanton destruction of forests.
Monica Kalenda takes over from Mugo as the new CCF while the former KFS commandant ALex Lemarkoko has been moved to HR department in the shakeup that saw senior officers move positions.
This comes at a time the new CS for Environment Keriako Tobiko has moved in to revamp the service heavily accused of corruption and wanton destruction of forests through dubious tree felling.
"We have serious challenges with conservation measures as the head of conservancies and ecosystem conservancies just shut the doors to us as the stakeholders,"he said.
