Gatundu North environment Director Beatrice Mueni has urged all environmentalists to spearhead tree growing by recognizing possible areas for planting and rehabilitation.
The environmentalist, while daring sub county environment stakeholders to join hands in the green school programmes meant to inculcate tree growing culture among school going children noted that her department was committed to supporting schools in the venture.
She noted that the green schools initiative was started by the national government and is funded by the treasury. She encouraged all schools to use the chilly environment to collectively provide room for development of greener environments in schools.
Mueni spoke in Kairi Primary where she launched this year’s chilly weather tree planting season, announcing that the Kenya Forest Service had over 50 million tree seedlings that were set aside for planting across the country.
She further beseeched the private sector within the sub county to consider tree growing as part of their responsibility in giving back to the society to support and encourage communities to adopt the tree growing culture which she said is ‘very paying’.
She unveiled the county governments plan to plant 4,000 seedlings within secondary and primary school within Gatundu North in two months’ time.
Mueni added that areas neighboring Kieni forests were to be fenced to avert human wildlife fight.
