The international community has spoken on threats by the opposition to swear in its leader Raila Odinga.

An envoy speaking on condition of anonymity told a local daily that if NASA keeps its threat good and goes ahead to inaugurate Raila, the former Prime Minister would be isolated in some diplomatic circles.

"Internationally, he could face unspecified sanctions," the diplomatic source told Daily Nation on Monday.

"Locally, some of his allies could desert him and his legacy could go up in smoke," the source added.

He said the diplomatic community was supporting dialogue between Raila and President Uhuru Kenyatta, adding that the ruling party seemed less interested in engaging the Opposition.

"Talks could be crucial in ending the political uncertainty but Jubilee and President Kenyatta are not keen on them and are unlikely to negotiate in good faith," he noted.

The remarks come after Raila on Sunday said he will soon be sworn in as 'people's president', accusing Kenyatta of being not ready to dialogue with him.

"Nobody will stop me from lifting the Bible," he said during Coast People's Assembly convention in Kilifi County.

"It is better to stand up for the truth and die while at it than to die lying down," added the ODM party leader.

Siaya Senator James Orengo has also hinted that NASA could inaugurate Raila before the end of the year.

"They (Jubilee) say we cannot swear in Raila, but we are telling them we will bring forward the plan to do so soon," Orengo said on Sunday.
