Workers of the New Wide Export Group of companies elected their officials at the New Wide Five Company’s compound without violence as had been the norm.

The elections that were conducted through Mlolongo method saw shop steward officials elected in various positions in line with the companies’ structures.

Several employees who were interviewed by this writer shortly after participating in the elections expressed their satisfaction in the polls.

“New Group of Companies have never conducted such peaceful elections, this is something to write home about. You can remember the controversial union elections that were conducted by the same EPZA workers majority from these companies which led to violence leading to blocking of Namanga Road at Kitengela town by the irate workers,” said Otieno.

Joshua Otieno lauded organizers of the elections stating they were transparent, free and fair without any discrepancies or malpractices at all.

Jael Mueni on her part said the candidates who were contesting for various positions in the elections also contributed to the successful polls.

Mueni said all the candidates were sober and disciplined, a situation she argued helped in effectively conducting the elections and coming up with credible and satisfactory results.

Employee, Peter Otuoro who also participated in the polls as an electorate congratulated the winners and praised those who lost the elections for conceding defeat.

The elected officials to the companies’ leadership positions will serve in their respective positions for the next five years before the next polls are conducted.
