Kisumu Equator Bottlers has invested Sh1 billion in a new preform manufacturing plant for their plastic bottled products. The managing director, Enrique Huguet, said the new state-of-the-art facility will enable the company manufacture its own plastic bottles for packaging. Huguet said the establishment of the facility was ready by November last year and now the company will not source for raw materials from independent suppliers. He said the production facility has the capacity to produce 30,000 plastic bottles per hour. “With this facility, we would be able to produce millions of plastic bottles annually for our use,” he said. Speaking after a media tour of the facility, located next to Kisumu International Airport, the MD said the investment has increased the economic activity within the region. He said the production will now meet the market demand in parts of East African countries. Huguet said more employment has been created in the region as a result of the new plant. “Equator Bottlers will come up with more investments, more expansion in this region. The new plant is just one of such investments," he added.
