The hot temperatures and scorching sun currently being experienced at the Kenyan coast has raised alarm among residents.
On Wednesday, Hivisasa interviewed few residents in Jomvu, Mombasa and Ukunda in Kwale who confirmed that the temperatures were 'abnormal'.
"The sun has been so hot. It is really burning. This is unusual," said a courier shop operator in Ukunda."
The sun is burning. Our work is now even more difficult," added a boda boda operator in Mikanjuni, Jomvu.
In March 2016, the environmental experts urged Mombasa residents to stay indoors between 12 pm and 3 pm due to the high temperatures saying they could can result in dehydration and sunstroke.
A circular by the Kenya Meteorological Department termed heat waves "no joke" and noted that a dangerous temperature level could melt a candle placed outside a house.
Assistant Director in charge of Forecasting Services, Bernard Chanzu said "people should take great care.
Due to the Equinox phenomenon that will affect the county in the next five days beginning Saturday, the temperature will fluctuate until 40 degrees Celsius."
