The diminishing performance in institutions across Gusii region is as a result of inadequate facilities in libraries that could aid students do thorough research and referencing, an academician has said.

Speaking at Ikonge Girls during a career fare on Friday, Prof. Albert Getabu challenged area politicians and well-wishes to equip libraries as an effort to make learning easy for students.

He said many existing libraries virtually in all institutions in Gusii land had inadequate learning books and this makes it impossible for learners to do intensive academic work.

“There is a serious outcry of students in our schools due to inadequate facilities. This is a problem that can be fixed by local politicians now that we have county governments and CDF. It is there obligation to make learning favorable for students,” he said.

“Students have ended up doing peripheral academic referencing and study due to the worsening situation of insufficient books in our libraries. Something urgent should be done to curb the apathy,” Getabu added.

The Mt. Kenya University Kisii campus Principal also asked the KNEC to improve its invigorative tactics since many students have always been implicated with exam irregularity.

“KNEC ought to up its game. It is quite ironical that students can engage in malpractice despite hence presence of invigilators. These invigilated should be investigated a part from just punishing candidates,” he said.

 The don encouraged students to choose universities well in order to meet requirements of the contemporary job market.
