Kenyans will be forced to pay an extra coin at the pump after the Energy Regulatory Commission increased fuel prices.
The prices, which were effected at midnight, will see petrol going up by Sh2.18 in Nairobi, with diesel going up by Sh2.39 and kerosene going up by S3.36, which is the largest of the three increases.
In its monthly notice, ERC said the hiking of the prices is because of the average cost of imported super petrol increasing by nearly 4 per cent in December compared to November.
Over that same period the price of crude oil went up marginally, and the Kenya shilling against the US dollar, the currently for the global oil trade.
So far in Nairobi, the price of super petrol will now cost Sh106.3, diesel going at Sh94.82, while kerosene will go for 74.78 per litre.
The commission justified its increase in the prices in their statement, though they remain very unpopular with oil marketers in the country.
The prices will remain active until February 14, when they will be reviewed again.
