This is after the commission secured a court order paving way for the site's demolition.

On November 29, Principal Magistrate Harrison Baraza, sitting at an Eldoret Court found guilty four people who had been implicated in the illegal sale of adulterated fuel and fined each Sh2 million.

The magistrate also allowed ERC to demolish the site.

According to John Otido, an ERC official, the site had three trucks with over 100,000 litres of fuel.

"We have an order authorizing demolition of an illegal site and fuel found will be forfeited back to the state," he said on Wednesday at Jua Kali during the operation.

He added, "Trucks will be towed to and become assets of the state."

The ERC official noted that there has been ongoing crackdown on illegal fuel sites since September 2016 involving multi agencies among them NEMA, KRA, police and the county government.

"As ERC we are happy and appreciate what the multi agencies has helped us achieve in this fight," said Otido.

"Illegal fuel is doing bad damage to our country as we have lost markets and vehicle destroyed," he added.

Other illegal sites linked to the unscrupulous fuel business include Kamagut and Kemuswo in Uasin Gishu County.
