[Photo|ERC]The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) has partnered with USAID Power Africa to convene a joint workshop for the Solar Photovoltaic sector in Kenya. The aim of the workshop is to introduce the Single Window System managed by Kenya Trade Network Agency (KENTRADE) to Solar PV companies and explain how the online platform works.A Single Window system is a facility that enables traders to make a single submission of trade information to multiple government agencies involved in collection of trade statistics, taxes, duties and enforcement of controls laid down by domestic policies and international agreements.Among the benefits of a Single Window System is time and cost saving for traders through reduction of delays and visits to multiple government agencies.Speaking on behalf of ERC Petroleum Department Acting Director General Pavel Oimeke, ERC Acting Director General Edward Kinyua, praised the joint efforts between ERC and KENTRADE in supporting growth of the Solar Photovoltaic system industry. "By licensing of players in this field, and through clearance using the Single Window System run by KENTRADE, the Commission has found it seamless in helping the Solar Photovoltaic system industry grow in Kenya," Kinyua said Tuesday morning, during the workshop. The workshop will also provide clarity on the roles of various agencies, correct requirements and processes for licensing, importation, clearance and tax exemption for solar PV products.
