As the Makueni media training organised by ERC came to a close on Tuesday, ERC Director General Pavel Oimeke briefed the press on a number of issues, saying:

1. ERC is set to fully enforce the Energy (Appliances’ Energy Performance and Labelling) Regulations (2016) from 15th July 2018.

2. ERC advises all motorists to adhere to the advisory at fuel stations to switch off engines before fueling.

3. Truck drivers and transporting company linked with fuel adulteration will be banned from operation.  

4. ERC has proposed tax increase on Kerosene as way to cub fuel adulteration.

5. Mwananchi gas and solar lanterns are proposed to supplement the use of Kerosene in the country.

 6. Fast-tracking of smart meters will help curb illegal electricity connection.

7. ERC encourages investment in mini-grid as long as the provided laws are adhered to. 

A licence for production and distribution of power must be acquired from the Commission and a tariff structure must be submitted to ERC as a way of protecting the consumer.
