KIPEDA have planned a strike to oppose new regulations in the petroleum sector.

But speaking in Eldoret town on Friday, ERC Director General  Robert Oimeke said the new regulations are meant to streamline the petroleum industry.

“Our aim is to come up with measures that will totally curb the fuel adulteration which has been rampant in the country and not to punish anyone  I, therefore, urge transporters not to engage in the strike since it will disturb the stability of the nation,” said Oimeke.

He reiterated ERC's commitment to ensuring Kenyans get clean fuel that cannot cause damages when consumed.

“If the association has an issue, they should come and engage for us to work on a framework for total compliance with the law instead of resolving to strike,” Oimeke added.

The director general further revealed that they have established 26 notorious dens across the country involved in the sale of adulterated fuel and that they will soon start a countrywide crackdown on the same.

He also said to stop the illegal fuel business, they have started campaigns to sensitize the public on the dangers of using illegal fuel and its effects on individual, vehicles and the environment at large.
