State House spokesperson Manoah Esipisu has dismissed National Super Alliance (NASA) flagbearer Raila Odinga's remarks concerning the repeat presidential election held on Thursday citing that the voter turn out was as low as 25 per cent of the registered voters.
According to Esipisu, Raila's claims that the numbers in the repeat election have been doctored are just laughable.
He believes Raila is neither the chair nor a commissioner of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) and so cannot determine what percentage of the voters turned up for the repeat poll.
"Raila allegations are only laughable. He is neither the chair nor a commissioner of the electoral body," reiterated Esipisu.
Esipisu further affirmed that the repeat election cannot be illegitimate just because some people boycotted the election and the turn out also low.
In his view, there are countries that have conducted peaceful elections despite a low turnout and people boycotting the election.
"The election cannot be illegitimate just because some people boycotted the process and also the turn out being low. Countries like Romania and Kosovo recently had elections with low voter turnouts but they were not illegitimiate. Liberia had an election in 2011 where some people boycotted the process but the then elected President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf still served her term," added Esipisu.
Esipisu made his remarks during an interview with CNN on Friday evening.
