Onkoba said setting up projects like eye hospital in the county will help the less fortunate in the society gain access to critical medical services.

He observed that though the Lions Club in Kisii had initiated several charity initiatives targeting the less fortunate in society, there was need to establish a giant project that attracts a large number of the disadvantaged in the society especially in the field of Medicare for terminal illness.

Speaking at Kisii Sports club during a consultative forum drawing participants from the Kisii County Government, NGOs, business community, Rotary Club and Lions Club, Onkoba expressed concern that with increasing population in the Gusii region, majority of people were in need of affordable and timely services in the area of healthcare.

"Having the Club start a big project in Kisii County will positively impact on the less fortunate in our society," stated Onkoba.

The Kisii Lions Club President Jitendra Nagda who was the guest speaker decried poor membership in the Lions club of Kisii and challenged residents in the area to register in large numbers to strengthen the club and its charity initiatives.

"In Kenya we have over 45 million people and only about 1,500 members in the Lions and Rotary Clubs meaning the demand for services by the less fortunate in our society will not be met if membership in these charitable clubs will not be enhanced," Observed Nagda.

Kisii County Executive Committee member of Health Services Sarah Omache commended the Lions and Rotarians spirit of transforming the lives of the less fortunate in the society promising the County's willingness to partner with the Clubs in taking charity services to the less fortunate.

"As a County Government under the leadership of our Governor James Ongwae we express our commitment to partner with you through mobilisation and registration of the officers in the county to become members of either the Lions or Rotary Club to enhance our strength as charitable organisations set to transform lives of our communities in the County,” stated Omache.
