Police in Uasin Gishu say they have restored calm in Kipsomba ward at the boarder of Uasin Gishu and Kakamega counties following an incident in which a teenager was killed and several houses burnt in the area.

There was tension in the area after claims that the incident was as a result of ethnic clashes.

However Eldoret West OCPD Samuel Mutunga dismissed the reports saying locals burnt down the houses which they suspect were harboring the criminals who had killed the man.

Speaking in Eldoret, Thursday, Mutunga said already two suspects have been arrested and are helping the police with investigations.

"These two young men are believed to be notorious criminals in the area and we suspect they are the ones behind the killing," Mutunga said.

"Burning of the houses was not as a result of ethnic clashes. Reports we have indicate that after the man was killed locals were unhappy and decided to burn the suspect's houses and also extended to illegal alcohol brewers," he added.

The suspects are being held at the Central Police station in Eldoret town and they are expected to be arraigned in court.
