Senate speaker Ekwe Ethuro has yet again recalled senators for another special sitting scheduled Thursday January 5th 2017 to discuss the controversial election laws amendments.
Last week, Ethuro recommitted the controversial laws to the Senate Legal Committee, which is set to table its recommendations on Thursday.
The laws had been passed by chaotic National assembly, in which MPs from opposition walked out in protest, accusing their counterparts of dishonesty.
“I have put officially in the Kenyan gazette and my expectation is that we have a smooth sitting. We will be receiving the report from the legal committee and have a debate on the same,” Ethuro said.
“As per the house Standing Orders, senators will debate the matter and come up with a concrete solution. Should they not agree, the house will take a vote to settle the matter,” he added.
Ethuro was lauded by a section of members of the public for his ability to control the house from degenerating to party politics on the matter.
