Senate Speaker Ekwee Ethuro hosted five members of the European Parliament, who paid him a courtesy call at his Senate Building.Led by Alojz Peterle (from Slovenia), David Martin (UK), Soraya Post (Sweden), Bernd Lucke (Germany) and Julie Ward (UK), the delegation sought to understand issues affecting the country ranging from Corruption, Devolution, Gender Representation in governance and the upcoming Augwudt Elections.During their deliberations, Ethuro rooted for the the creation of an entity that will specifically be charged with conducting party primaries.He said he was glad the Independent Election and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) turned down requests by political parties to conduct their primaries saying the commission would have been overwhelmed by the task at the expense of the general elections preparations. The Speaker said with only three months to general elections, IEBC required all enough time to prepare for a credible electoral process.Also present during the, Tuesday, meeting were National Assembly Deputy Speaker and Sotik MP Dr Joyce Laboso and Senate Minority Leader, Bungoma senator Moses Wetangula.
