Immediate former Senate speaker Ekwee Ethuro. He has said his quest to retain the seat is not at threat by former Bungoma governor Ken Lusaka.Photo/wikipedia.Immediate former Senate speaker Ekwe Ethuro has exuded confidence in retaining his seat once the Senate resumes operations on Thursday.
Speaking in an interview with NTV on Wednesday, the former Turkana Central legislator downplayed claims that he could lose out to former Bungoma governor Kenneth Lusaka who is also being fronted by the Jubilee coalition.
Ethuro noted that the former governor inspite of having the green light from the ruling coalition does not present much threat to his bid to retain his role in the senate adding that he is not a parliamentarian and thus may not lobby effectively.
"I don't really think he is a threat to me.First he is not a parliamentarian and that means he may not really lobby effectively.Secondly, I believe I have done a good job and I deserve another term", he said.
Ethuro who steered the 11th Parliament in the Senate faces a litmus test to defend his seat with Lusaka, Wiper deputy party leader Farah Maalim as well as former Migori senator Wilfred Machage presenting a serious challenge.
The approval of Lusaka in particular by the ruling coalition on Monday caused a backlash from MPs drawn from the Turkana region who felt the party was out to force out their man.Ethuro has however confirmed that he is still in good books with Jubilee and believes the party will support him.
