The European Union (EU) has given out grants to some NGOs in Kisumu County to implement a project aimed at enabling devolved governance through inclusive and systematic citizen participation.
Concern Worldwide, one of the NGOs being funded has organised a meeting with different stakeholders in Kisumu for a brief project introductory meeting.
The NGO assistant programme manager in charge of governance and advocacy Denis Kongere says the Kisumu project will also be implemented in Migori and Marsabit counties.
“Concern Worldwide jointly with KMET, CARD and PISP received a 3- year grant from European Union to implement the project,” he said.
Kongere said other NGOs like Cordaid jointly with CSO-Network and CEMIRIDE have received co-funding from the European Union to implement the successful devolution in Kisumu and Isiolo counties over a three year period.
He said the two projects whose major objective is to promote citizen’s inclusive participation in county planning and budgeting will be implemented concurrently in close partnership with the county government of Kisumu.
Kongere said the main objective of the two projects is to contribute towards transparency and accountability of county authorities and inclusion of local communities in county decision making processes for effective service delivery by the Kisumu County Government.
