European Union election observers mission has spoken out on the demands issued by both National Super Alliance (NASA) and Jubilee parties ahead of the October 26 election.
Nasa has been criticized by the mission for demanding the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
The opposition party is looking to remove IEBC CEO Ezra Chiloba whom they have faulted for electoral malpractices during the August 8 presidential election.
“Excessive demands, which cannot be met by the IEBC, place an extraordinary burden on the institution and escalate tension and antagonism in the election,” the EU mission said in a statement.
Jubilee has also been criticized for attempting to "fix" the electoral laws ahead off the October 26 presidential polls.
“Late amendments to electoral legislation risk being politically polarizing, undermining the predictability of law, reducing the quality of legislation and generating implementation problems,” the mission said.
“It is good practice for the fundamental elements of an electoral process to be legally finalized at least one year before an election.”
