Dr Mzenga Wamalwa, who teaches at Augsburg University in Minneapolis and his wife Namalwa Mzenga, are being evicted from a country they have lived for 25 years.

"I had given in when Trump's administration took a hard line stance on immigrants. There is nothing I can do," he told the local paper.

He was ordered to report to immigration officials next month to plan for his repatriation to Kenya even as community within Minnesota is pushing authorities to spare him.

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey said in a statement that Wanyama was a pillar in the community and the region was better for his job.

"No president, no federal agency will deport Wanyama without a fight from me, from our partners and from our people," he stated.

For a year now, President Donald Trump's administration has remained tough of people believed to be illegal immigrants with hundreds already reportedly to have been deported.

Wanyama, who is uncle to Wamalwa, first entered in US in 1992 as a non -immigrant exchange visitor and was subsequently followed by his wife in 1995.
