Kisumu County Government has distributed food stuffs and other essentials to over 30 families who were evicted from their homes by the Ahero National Irrigation Board. Ombeyi ward representative Joshua Auko said he approached the county government to assist his people. Auko said under the disaster management unit in the governor’s office, some food stuff was released to the families. “The county government had the obligation to come to the assistance of its people and that is why they have released the food stuffs,” he said. Handing over the foodstuff to the affected families at Kogalo evacuation centre, Auko said more assistance will be given to the families. He further told the families that were affected not to attend a meeting at the irrigation board that is slated to take place on Thursday. “The irrigation board has called for a meeting but let me warn my people not to attend such a meeting, it is illegal,” he said. He said the case is before court and any court contempt should not be allowed. He said the controversial land has led to the eviction of his people who continue to live in deplorable condition yet their ancestral land has been taken away.
