It was every man for himself and God for us all when police raided a home alleged to be a brewing den in Omosocho.

Area chief Justus Okenye led other administrative officers in the raid, but most of those alleged to be involved managed to run. After the escape, the officers then embarked on destroying hundreds of liters of the illicit brew and other materials used in the brewing. He left a warning to all those involved that he will not sit back and watch as the illicit drink wreaks homes and kills young men. The area is known for the production of illegal alcohol, which is supplied to neighboring areas. Illicit brew, in general, is not a new thing in Kisii, and cases of people dying as a result of the drink have been reported on a daily basis. Last week, a man in Nyacheki died after he was burnt by the illicit brew. The man is said to have been among those producing it, when he accidentally slipped while carrying the hot substance, leaving him with burns. He later succumbed to these injuries, after the family failed to take him to hospital fearing they will be arrested for the illicit business.
